We took an early morning flight to Luxor and checked into the Sofitel Old Winter Palace. Built in 1886 on the banks of the Nile and set in tropical gardens it is a wonderful experience to stay in a hotel that has hosted celebrities and even royalty throughout the years. On arrival we were treated to high tea.
After settling into our rooms Hanan took us on a tour of Luxor Markets which was an experience and culture shock. The shopkeepers were very aggressive and in the end after a little bartering we walked through trying not to catch the eye of any locals so we would not be pursued down the lane way. We really didn't try for souvenirs here.
In the evening we dined at the hotel at the El Tarboush restaurant situated by the pool where we were able to sample traditional Egyptian food.
